Southern California Proposal & Wedding Photographer
We’re Stephanie and Bryan— a husband-and-wife duo who believe that life’s most meaningful moments deserve to be captured and cherished. Stephanie is the creative force behind the lens, and Bryan, a software engineer by day, is her biggest supporter in every endeavor. Together, we bring a dynamic blend of creativity, precision, and teamwork to every session.
Not every proposal needs grand setups or epic video crews. Sometimes, it’s just a quiet walk on a trail, a breathtaking view, and two people deeply in love. On March 26, 2025, I photographed a sweet and simple surprise proposal for Caitlin and Jacob in Palos Verdes — and it brought me right back to how I started in this work. No fluff, no extras, just honest storytelling through photos.
And yes — Shabu came with me for this one. 🐾
Back to Basics
This proposal was the kind I used to shoot all the time when I first began: no floral arch, no hidden videographers — just me, my camera, and a whole lot of anticipation.
Jacob reached out from Lancaster, planning this for Kaitlyn, who’s finishing nursing school in Idaho. They’ve been doing long distance, so this moment meant even more. We scouted a quiet overlook with ocean views and very few people around — ideal for the intimate kind of energy they wanted.
It was a little bit overcast that day, which I honestly didn’t mind — soft clouds make for beautiful lighting. We didn’t get the usual spring wildflowers Palos Verdes is known for (less rain this year), but the views still gave us magic. That dramatic coastline always delivers, flowers or not.
Shabu, Trail Boss Extraordinaire
Since this was a simpler shoot and we were headed to one of our favorite trails, I brought Shabu with me. She didn’t have to ride in the backpack this time — instead, she led the way like the little adventurer she is. At one point, she even found some dried mussels to roll in (classic Shabu move). She was such a good girl the entire time — no barking, no chaos, just chilling nearby while I photographed the moment.
The Moment it Happened
When I saw Kaitlyn and Jacob approaching, I knew it was them — all dressed up, walking hand in hand. I hung back discreetly, ready to capture everything as it unfolded.
Kaitlyn’s reaction was pure joy. So many smiles. So much energy. The kind of “YES!” that fills the air in the best way. We captured it all, and then spent the next hour and a half wandering the cliffs, laughing, shooting portraits, and soaking it all in.
They even let me borrow their bouquet for a few styled shots — and we got creative with spins, dips, and a few soft, quiet moments too.
The Details that Matter
Even though this was a no-frills session, I still gave them the option to record a short message on the camera for their own memory vault. It’s such a fun keepsake — and I think every couple deserves something like that, whether or not they opt for a full video package.
We stayed a little past the scheduled time, but the light was good, they were happy, and there was no rush. When couples are still glowing and fully present, I’ll never be the one to say, “Okay, time’s up.”
Photographer Note
These are the types of shoots that fill me up. Nothing fancy — just heartfelt connection, a beautiful backdrop, and the honor of being the quiet witness behind the camera.
If you’re dreaming of your own low-key, candid proposal with room to breathe (and maybe a trail-loving dog assistant in tow), I’d love to help you plan it.
