The Bastiens were vacationing in the Long Beach area for a week to celebrate one of the children’s college graduation. On the day they arrived, the weather was perfect for family photos at the beach, warm and not too chilly to be wearing shorts closer to sunset. The family stayed at an Airbnb, which was literally 50 steps from the beach. For those who are visiting from a hometown that don’t have access to the beach should totally consider staying at one of these locations in Long Beach. This particular part of Long Beach, close to Alamitos Bay Landing, is less crowded and much more open for small groups of families to enjoy themselves.
This was yet another fun and effortless family session for an hour with the family of 5. The family was not shy at all to show off their smiles and affection towards one another in front of the camera. We were able to capture various angles of shots, as well as solo portraits and different group photos, which is why an hour is highly recommended for a session that’s more relaxed and less rushed.
The golden hour at this particular location provided 2 different looks and feels for their photos. If you are not already aware, California has the best sunset glow at the beach as the sun sets on the West Coast. However, not all California beaches have the same sunset glow as it depends on the landscape and its particular location. For our session location, the beach faces South-West, closer to the South direction. Looking towards the West was a bit harsh on the eyes, but definitely provided different lighting when photographing the backs of their bodies facing West.
I am so happy to have the opportunity to capture these memories for the family, I am sure these photos will have a special place for the family to revisit in the future.
