Being a Palos Verdes native, I often overlooked the beauty this city has to offer. When I first moved to Palos Verdes from Hong Kong, my first impression was that it is such a remote boring place to live at, where walking is not a practical option to get to places, especially when compared to a city like Hong Kong. It wasn’t until I started doing more photography that I noticed all the little gems around every corner in PV.
I originally scouted the Christmas Tree Cove area during a Sunrise Golden Hour, which was completely hazy, and I couldn’t see a thing. It gave me the misconception that the area may not be a good option for family photoshoots. When the Redmond family first suggested Christmas Tree Cove for a 2pm shoot, I was a little bit concerned it would be too bright in the day for photos. Turns out, with Palos Verdes’ unpredictable weather, it was a perfect day and spot for a Fall family photo session! There’s a giant Christmas tree-like tree standing close by the cliff, overlooking the ocean, along with semi tall dried grass as the foreground, creating a captivating backdrop that’s hard to come by.
The Redmond family of 9 plus 2 dogs came prepared with their color coordinated outfits and big cheerful smiles. Within the hour, we took a handful of beautiful traditional shots, candid shots, as well as fun and silly ones. The family was such a joy to shoot with, I am grateful the family took my crew there – another great recommended photo spot for those who love ocean views.
