One of the popular photo spots my clients love to shoot at has been the beach down by the Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes. It is public and does not require a permit, so it is definitely one of the top choices among families. This particular session was a Holiday Mini session, which was really quick, like 15 minutes short. Here’s a quick link to my Holiday Mini sessions if you are interested. There are some downsides to short mini sessions when shooting with little ones, most of the time, the little ones need some time to warm up to the photographer, or they may be coming from a nap, so getting them right into posing may not be ideal. However, for some families like the Wilner’s, they have done session photography a handful of times, so they are quite familiar with posing, and taking cues from the photographer to get the most desirable shots within a small time frame.
This particular session was originally scheduled to be shot during the Golden Hour, but we had to move it an hour early, which the sun was low enough to be shining into their eyes, so finding creative angles was crucial to cultivate decent looking shots. I personally really loved the ones with the rock as the background. The little boy really wanted to pose on the rock, and what makes the kid happy will get me some natural smiles, so why not? While I was concerned the sun would be right in his eyes, the shots actually turned out quite nice. It has a fashionable, stylized look. What do you think?
