Always consider your partner\u2019s comfort and familiarity with boats: if they\u2019re new to boating or prone to seasickness, opting for a <strong>larger, more stable boat<\/strong> is wise. (In fact, we suggest avoiding very small boats under about 25 feet\/7.5 meters, as they can wobble a lot when you\u2019re trying to kneel or hug on deck!) A steadier vessel means you can both feel at ease and focus on the big moment instead of finding your sea legs.<\/p><p>Equally important is having a reliable, experienced crew or captain \u2013 especially if you\u2019re not personally piloting the boat. <strong>Coordinate with the boat captain or rental company<\/strong> ahead of time and let them know your plans. Many charter captains have helped with proposals before and can guide you to the best spots and even assist in subtle ways (like positioning the boat for the perfect sunset view or maintaining smooth sailing during the proposal). If you\u2019re hiring a photographer (more on that in Tip 5), you may also need the crew\u2019s help to <strong>keep the proposal a secret<\/strong> \u2013 for example, by disguising the photographer as a crew member or by arranging pickup in a separate dinghy if the photographer will shoot from afar.
