Family Photos in Palos Verdes | The Dixon Family

The Dixon family was one of the many families that asked a lot of questions in regards to the how and when. Like many families, they have been to the standard portrait studios, and wanted to try something different and more beyond the walls. 

As a Southern California Lifestyle Photographer for almost a year now, I’ve done a handful of indoor and outdoor photo sessions for families of all sizes. While indoor sessions offer coverage and controlled lighting, I find that outdoor sessions are more fun for everyone, especially the little ones and the young-at-heart adults, me included. 🙂 

For the Dixons, they wanted some guidance on expectations and decisions. Photoshoots are  not rocket science, but it does matter when and where to shoot. Some like the water, and some like the dry grass. Some prefer early mornings away from crowds, and some prefer the golden glow in their backdrop. Originally, they were thinking of doing 2 different themed sessions. While I do love themed photo sessions, it is not my area of focus. However, that does not mean I won’t provide suggestions! I do have a creative eye for things after all, and I believe getting the families involved with creating these photos is part of the experience that will be memorable for them to look back at. For that reason, I would encourage families to bring their own decorations to recreate the particular theme they want in the outdoors. Believe it or not, a simple garland that says “Happy New Year” may just be enough for the photos.
