Liam’s 7th Birthday

As little ones get older each year, their interests evolve and mature. This year, my husband’s nephew turned 7, and he wanted a Super Mario Bros. themed birthday party. 

Liam’s parents worked tirelessly in putting together this really cool party, and by the way, he told me to use the word “cool” to describe things – not beautiful, not cute, just “cool”. [Smiles] One of the many cool features from the Super Mario video games is the floating question blocks. In the game, the character you control is supposed to jump up and head punch these boxes with question marks, to retrieve in-game coins. I am not sure where and how the parents gathered the crafty ideas, but they teamed up with the grandparents in putting together these life size question cubes filled with chocolate coins, and hung them around a few corners in the house for the birthday boy Mario and his li’l Luigi Bro to discover after he returned from school. 

For some outdoor fun, we hit a Thwomp pinata for a couple rounds before it finally came down, showering the kids with candies and chocolates. It is so precious to see the excitement and joy the little ones have on their faces when candies fall down from the sky. We also bounced on the trampoline for a little bit just to get their sugar rush out of the system. I can’t even keep up with their high energy, I am definitely not young anymore, haha! 

While the grandparents went to pick up dinner take out from Great China Restaurant in Berkeley, the kids opened and played with Liam’s new high tech Super Mario Lego set. They played a few rounds of Mario video games, and had some photobooth fun with the balloons. 

To wrap up the night, we had a yummy Super Mario ice cream cake and played a few rounds of Super Mario bingo before it was time for the kids to go to bed. What a cool party! We had so much fun and we were completely depleted by the end of the night. Thank you for having us!
