A beautiful family with breathtaking scenery in Southern California, called Palos Verdes. On the day of the session, we were scheduled to shoot during the Golden hour at a neighborhood park. However, as Palos Verdes’ weather is known to be unpredictable, instead of clear skies as predicted by the forecast, it was completely overcast and gloomy in the area. With the right lighting, photography can do its magic to bring out a beautiful picture, but that particular spot we originally planned for a month ago – Hesse Park, no longer looked the same, which is a common thing we encounter as photographers. For that reason, we quickly switched to a nearby location called Point Vicente Interpretive Center, which is closer to the water, overlooking the ocean and a historical lighthouse.

If you have never been to Point Vicente Interpretive Center, it is in fact attached to a beautiful public park where people love to hike and stop by the area, picnic with families, go whale watching, and even celebrate love with wedding receptions there. It is a really beautiful location for many different occasions and provides many reasons to visit. Mark your calendar, as the lighthouse is open for the public to visit on the second Saturday of each month, but do your research on the opening hours as it can be different from when this post is written.

The Sanchez family is a family of 3 with 3 small dogs. While the park is dog friendly, the dogs were a little timid since it was their first time at the park. The family came dressed up in their best outfits and hair. With outdoor sessions, there are numerous on-site conditions that are uncontrollable, so it is always best to bring forth a flexible attitude whether you are being photographed or photographing the session. With the location closer to the cliff, it was a little windy, so hair was flying everywhere, including mine. As ladies, we love to let our hair down to get that natural hair blown by the wind. But under windy conditions, we had to find a direction and spot that made the hair flow naturally in a photogenic way. Kudos to the ladies for adjusting and adapting to the situation so quickly with their best smiles and postures, we were able to capture some beautiful shots. Even though it was overcast at the coast, the sunset glow cast beautiful light and colors in the sky, creating a painting-like backdrop. By adding appropriate filler flash light, as a team, we created an unique style of family photos on this particular day. The family was a joy to work with, and I really loved the results!
